Location Idea 3 - Norfolk Coast

 While planning my music video one thing I need to do is consider filming locations. I need to construct each frame of the music video so it enhances the effect I'm trying to create.

 I want to include shots filmed on different locations and for this reason I have taken the time to research various places that are accessible for me. The images below show one of the locations I've visited to research. Living in Norfolk since birth, I have travelled to the north Norfolk coast many times. The landscape is safe and would allow for good filming. There are sand dunes on Caister, Yarmouth and Wells-Next-The-Sea beaches which I could use and there are large flat areas of sand at Cromer and Sheringham. I want to do some filming in these places as I have had some ideas for shots already. Sheringham beach at low tide

 The image above shows Sheringham beach in Norfolk (one of my possible filming spots). I took this picture while visiting the beach near christmas. I think the flat sands, groins and stone slopes could work really well in a music video and I look forward to using it.

 To reach Sheringham for filming it would take me just over an hour by car but there are also trains available which I could use. I will have to factor in the cost of travel before visiting the filming locations but the coast is somewhere I think would work well.

Location Idea 2 - Local Green Spaces

Another place I plan to use for filming is the local green space in my town. The large area has spacious grass areas as well as rows of apple trees which give the surroundings a more interesting shape.

There is a lot of natural light at this location and there is often a low mist in the earlier hours of the days. In the evenings the sun sets nicely over the horizon and it's visibly from the area meaning I could get some interesting natural lighting without my music video if I use this sort of environment. I also think this location would be good because it is a relatively quiet area and would decrease the chances of anyone interrupting our filming.

I have had some ideas about how I could use this location for my CD cover design too. I will include this information in a later post but I think there is huge potential with places like this.

Location Idea 1 - Woodland Road + Forest

 To add a more indie aesthetic to my music video I want to use more local spaces that are different to what most people would see on an every day basis. For this to happen I decided using local woodland good be something that would work well.

 Within a 10 minute cycle from my house there is a small area of woodland that I have visited before to do filming. Last year I used it for my thriller film and I think it would work well in my music video too. The tall, slim trees create strong, artistic shadows and the light that shoots through the trees looks really good. I want to use the forest environment to film some scenes of my music video where the performer is likely to be completely alone. It will be okay to use this environment for filming because it is away from any residential area and is public land so we have a right to be there. The image taken during my filming in the forest last year (right) shows what the light looks like on a sunny day. It doesn't need to be sunny when I film for my music video because the mood of the song is not especially up beat and therefore will not need huge amounts of natural light. 

 Filming here for my music video could work well because it is easy to access and it doesn't take myself or Jordan to get there even if we have to cycle. It's also good because we know what the weather will be like there before leaving the house as it is very close. Another plus is that because there are lots of trees they block sight to any roads meaning any cars that drive past during filming will not be seen and therefore won't affect filming in any way. I plan on filming a lot of slow motion and reverse footage in the forest environment. I have an old TV unit which I may use and if I can get the correct safety equipment we may smash as an interesting piece of slow motion film.

 The road going through the forest is also a good place for filming and photography. I want to record a scene where Jordan is running along side the camera (tracking shot) and a scene where Jordan is running behind the camera as if he is chasing it. To do this I will mount my action camera to the car and we'll drive it along the road while Jordan runs behind. I have completed a full risk assessment for this shoot. Below is an image I've taken of the road I want to use for the chasing/running shot. The road has no markings which gives it a nicer aesthetic for my music video's genre. It's also nice and wide giving more space and safety for filming and it is surrounded by picturesque woodland/grassland.
